Band Classes for Teens
Have a few friends who like to play music? Bring in the band for a weekly workshop with multi-instrumentalist Marc Enkin. The workshop focuses on basic musicianship, and the fundamentals of playing in a group. You provide the instrument and the desire to learn and have some fun. I supply the keyboard (if required), mics, and amps. All instruments and singers are welcome. You pick the songs and I arrange them for your group. Prerequisite: a very basic knowledge of chords, and the ability to read either music or tablature (tab notation for guitar and bass). If you don’t have these skills yet, sign up for a year of private lessons with me first and then you’ll be ready to go!
NEW! Jamming with a Coach – a weekly band workshop for adults, Bloor and Jane studio. Separate groups for teens.
Join a fun, weekly band workshop for all instruments and vocalists, led by Coach Marc Enkin, held in a relaxed, friendly, and supportive environment in west Toronto. You will learn the musical skills to play in a band, rhythmic ideas that help lock the band together, how to cue entrances and endings, and how to sing in harmony. Band members should have a year or more of playing experience, a basic knowledge of chords (guitars, bass, piano), but you do not need to know how to read music. Join by yourself, with a friend, or sign up your whole band for extra coaching. The band members choose the songs and I help you arrange them. I have a diploma from the Berklee College of Music, Boston and a BFA from York University, Toronto. I still get a thrill from teaching both young musicians and the young at heart. Marc was a wonderful piano teacher and role model for our son from his primary years to Grade 12. I suspect our son wouldn’t have continued with music lessons throughout his busy high school years had it not been for Marc’s designing a programme that captured our son’s multiple and evolving musical interests and Marc’s gift for relating so well to people of diverse ages. He is a truly great teacher.

Our 2 sons have been students of Marc’s for approx. 10 years. Marc has taught them as individual students, shared lessons and as members of a 4-piece band. Marc has an amazing combination of patience as well as an uncanny ability to engage and inspire. He has adjusted and evolved his approach as our sons grew up. It’s a real testament to Marc’s skills and commitment that my sons have looked forward to their weekly music lessons for nearly a decade.

Marc Enkin taught our children piano ( as well as some guitar and singing along the way ) for 8 years. Both our son and daughter were ( and are ) very fond of Marc. He has a special gift for relating to children. Marc makes learning music fun and that is so important.
Both Marc and Rebecca are warm and this makes their home studio welcoming. We would not hesitate to recommend Marc Enkin Music.

Back in 2008 I was looking for a music teacher for my son who had recently purchased his first guitar. Marc came highly recommended by a good friend and upon meeting him, we knew that he would be the perfect choice. Marc is talented, enthusiastic, motivating and fun to work with. My son loved every lesson he had with him, from guitar and harmonica to voice lessons. Later, in 2011, once my son was good enough, he joined two friends and another student of Marc’s in creating a rock band, and together they took lessons in performing. This led to gigs in coffee shops and restaurants around Toronto and even a professional recording of one of their original songs. All in all, Marc has not only been a fabulous teacher and mentor, but a good friend and I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending his services.

Marc provided a weekly jam space and positive environment for several of my early projects, either bringing a pre-made group to him or playing with a band he helped put together. He encouraged originality and cohesiveness, helping to form and flush out many ideas. Marc’s band classes are a great starting point for those who want to learn how to create and keep bands moving forward.
