Other Composing Projects
Film
Enkin composed the music for Finn with an Oyster: The Story Behind Toronto’s New City Hall, a well-received documentary about the architecture of Toronto City Hall, directed by Michael Kainer with Karen Teeple. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Toronto’s New City Hall and Nathan Philips Square, the film was launched from inside the hall’s iconic rotunda in 2015.
Composer and Music Director for Musical Theatre
Marc Enkin wrote multiple scores for values-in-education, touring children’s theatre company Golden Horseshoe Players (Street Safe, Video Wars, etc.), and directed the music for Mercury Theatre’s production of The Threepenny Opera (Brecht and Weill).
Comedic Songwriting for CBC Radio
Colleague Chris Gudgeon had a black labrador dog that howled whenever Enkin played the harmonica. They decided to record the dog “singing” while the men howled, “Oh, When the Saints Go Marching In,” and, on a lark, sent it to “The Basic Black Show” (CBC Radio). The producer told them it was “utter nonsense” and asked for more. Enkin and Gudgeon quickly got busy writing and recording themselves singing and playing for a series of comedy songs about the many quirks of life. Iconic CBC host Arthur Black featured their songs “Channel Surfing,” “Balding Blues,” and more, on the air.
ESL
With author Eleanor Adamowski and singer Rebecca Enkin, Enkin composed and produced fun and innovative educational recordings for Prentice-Hall Canada (Canadian Stories) and Oxford University Press Canada (The ESL Songbook). The ESL Songbook included ten of Enkin’s compositions and has been used in schools and colleges across Canada.
