About Marc Enkin
Jump to Section
Marc Enkin’s dynamic career as a multi-instrumentalist, performer, producer, and music teacher began in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, where, as a child, he took lessons in piano and banjo (Aubrey Rolf). Marc and his friend Anthony taught themselves to play harmonica on their walks to and from Sir Alan McNabb Secondary School. Later, Enkin studied guitar, arranging, and composition at Berklee College, the premier jazz education institution in the United States, and continued his training at York University in Toronto, completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in music. At York, he studied piano with Frank Falco, and arranging and composition with David Mott, Srul Irving Glick, and Paul Hoffert. Privately, he studied voice with Gwen Little. For a brief time, Enkin worked as an apprentice to Ari Isaac, a master piano technician and builder of piano hammers, in North Toronto. From 1990 to 2006, Marc managed The Village Studio, a recording studio in west Toronto, where he produced and recorded demos for singers, songwriters, jazz bands, and classical ensembles.
Marc Enkin lives in west Toronto, Canada, with his wife, singer Rebecca Enkin, and their beagle Barney. They have two adult sons.
Teacher
Private Lessons, Groups, Elementary School Bands
As one of Toronto’s most popular teachers of piano, guitar, bass, voice, banjo, ukulele, harmonica, theory, and songwriting, Marc Enkin teaches children and adults from his studio in Bloor West Village, Toronto, and at Etobicoke private school Kingsley Primary School. In 2016/17, Enkin was the band teacher at Karen Kain School of the Arts. He gets a thrill from teaching new musicians–in person and on Zoom–and starting them on the road to a lifelong love of music.
